International Olympic Committee President Jacques Rogge said Friday he was not fully informed about violent protests in Tibet and that efforts to improve human rights in China, the site of the Summer Olympics, are not his group's responsibility.

"It is not our job," Rogge told reporters. "We are not an activist organization."

Rogge declined to comment on Friday's violent protests in Tibet against Chinese rule, saying he did not know much about it.

The IOC chief had been traveling on Friday, and came to this Caribbean territory to attend the inauguration of the Museum of Olympic Sports of Puerto Rico, located in the southern town of Salinas.
