China protests US Congressional Gold Medal Award

Anytime His Holiness The Dalai Lama meets with a foreign dignitary Chinese government officials state their usual statement that "His Holiness is a splittist, it hurt the Chinese peoples feeling and this interferes with China's internal affairs." This time China even demanded U.S. to cancel the celebrations as it coincided with China's most important congress meeting held every five years.

As China finds it hard to swallow the US award His Holiness the Dalai Lama with the Congressional Gold Medal, what also stings China is the fact that the award ceremony is happening at the same time China's 17th National People's congress is in session.

Tibetans everywhere in the free world celebrated as His Holiness the Dalai Lama, the spiritual and the temporal leader of Tibet was awarded the prestigious Congressional gold medal award. A friend told me over the phone that the West Lawn of the White House was packed with Tibetans and Tibet supporters. He said, "it's like the civil rights gathering here." When he said that, I could feel the excitement and the happiness in his voice.
